But the problem is, the writers keep presenting us some really ridiculous scenarios along with all the cool and exciting. Let\u2019s go over the storyline, and then point out the good and the bad.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The Poet&#8217;s Fire- The Following 1&#215;03- Some main stuff<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Claire\u2019s (Natalie Zea) son is still with the two neighbors and his nanny, seemingly happy and playing around.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 FBI has smartened up a little, and has given Hardy (Kevin Bacon) a gun- who now canvasses the crime scene with other agents, complete with his bullet-proof vest, decreasing the possibility of being hit at the back of the head by one of Joe\u2019s (James Purefoy) followers (aka episode 2).<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A follower\u2019s MO is fire, as depicted in the end of this episode and we are shown more about his relationship with the others.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t want spoilers, stop here, please bookmark this page and come back after you\u2019ve watched the show!<\/p>\n<p>If you have seen the episode, let\u2019s roll:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>The Poet&#8217;s Fire- <\/strong><\/em><strong>The Cool:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The setting-on-fire scene. It\u2019s creepy, the victim is chosen for a reason that is revealed by Carroll a bit later and we\u2019re given a good reason on why a guy dressed as Poe and reciting his lines isn\u2019t perceived as strange.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We get another potential victim, the fire guy\u2019s wife. Sure, we can suspect her, but there\u2019s also the possibility of she\u2019s a victim just like Carroll\u2019s wife. She\u2019s appropriately traumatized.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The first meeting of Joe and Ryan-and how reassuring and normal Joe seems.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The expected unraveling of one of the neighbors, and confirming our guess about how the gay pretense wasn\u2019t exactly pretense<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The very ending \u2013 the e-mail to Claire.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>The Poet&#8217;s Fire-<\/strong><\/em><strong>The (really) bad:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>-After knowing how well Emma and neighbors forged their backgrounds, Ryan and the cult expert (though more she, than Ryan) buying into the Poe-masked killer\u2019s wife\u2019s background, leaving her alone in the office with the computer), and then sending her to her home-with one agent as protection!!!! And the demise of the agent\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Now you\u2019d think that with all the screw-ups since <a title=\"Review of The Following- concept and pilot\" href=\"http:\/\/pinartarhan.com\/blog\/the-following-starring-kevin-bacon-and-james-purefoy-epic-start\/\" target=\"_blank\">episode 1<\/a> (not giving Ryan a gun, not taking him seriously and not listening to him-leading to Sarah\u2019s death\u2026), the leading agent would be smart enough not to buy into the wife\u2019s story, and not send her with one agent. Even if she was telling the truth, one man wouldn\u2019t be enough. They don\u2019t know the number of killers the husband might be working for, and what if that one agent went to the bathroom for crying out loud?? Who\u2019d protect the woman then?<\/p>\n<p>*<\/p>\n<p>While the bad is really bad, thankfully the cool outweighs it. Maybe later we\u2019ll be given a moer reasonable explanation to the lead agent\u2019s behavior, such as her being a follower of Joe!!<\/p>\n<p>Still, my addiction level remains the same, and I\u2019m loving how the show keeps it all about Joe and Ryan episode after episode without straying from what makes the show, with only adding to it.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s hope the good guys make smarter calls in the fourth episode\u2026<\/p>\n<p><b>Favorite Line: <\/b>\u201cI slipped.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While talking to Jordy, the nutjob guard-turned-psycho, Ryan repeatedly asks him where Claire\u2019s son is.
