Jack (George Clooney) is an American hitman in Italy, working on his “new” assignment. He is supposed to keep to himself, but it becomes difficult as the local priest (Paolo Bonacelli) takes an interest in him and Jack develops a fondness for an Italian hooker named Clara (Violante Placido).

And that, is unfortunately, the whole plot. I didn’t leave much out, because well- apart from good scenery, and George Clooney’s character’s mostly solitary and boring existence, there is nothing in the movie. He works out, assembles a gun for a woman named Mathilde (Thekla Reuten) and hooks up with Clara…

Well, if there was an interesting part in the movie, it was in the beginning when George Clooney was having a romantic stroll with his “friend”, when some shooters attacked them in Sweden. What did George do to the girl? Shot her. That, I didn’t see coming. And later he revealed that she wasn’t a part of the ambush. In fact, she was totally clueless. Other than that, this can be the most uninteresting, unexciting film ever centered on a hitman. Watch at your own peril.

Adapted from the book A Very Private Gentleman by Martin Booth. Written for the screen by Rowan Joffe. Directed by Anton Corbijn.
