The 4th movie of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part – 1 is hitting the theaters in November. Since the teaser trailer is on the web, let’s talk about where we left off the characters, what happens in the trailer and how we feel about the series in general.

Eclipse made the rivalry between Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) even clearer. The werewolves and the vampires fought side by side to get rid of Seattle’s evil vampire gang lead by Victoria (Bryce Dallas Howard), but this didn’t really make vampire Edward and shapeshifter Jacob  bond.

Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward’s relationship saw a hard, yet romantic bargain: Our old-fashioned vampire wanted to get married – and he wouldn’t have sex with Bella until they did. Bella wanted to become a vampire to be able to spend eternity with him, and she wanted him to turn her. Edward’s family also agreed that it was the smarter thing to turn Bella. So Edward accepted to turn her as soon as they were married.

The 4th movie will obviously see Bella’s father Chief Swan (Billy Burke) go mad. He doesn’t know anything about vampires and werewolves, but he just trusts Jacob more. Plus, many sane fathers don’t look forward to their high school graduate daughters getting hitched right away. Obviously Jacob will do everything in its power to stop the wedding. But if the trailer is any indication, the wedding (and the much expected first-time sex) will take place. I haven’t read the 4th book, but from what I know (from the readers and the trailer), Bella will get pregnant against all odds…

You can watch the trailer here.

**

I really enjoyed the Twilight saga. Well, admittedly I enjoyed Twilight and Eclipse a lot more than New Moon because depression is not my thing. But I enjoy this fantasy world with eternal beauty, health, youth and love. I enjoyed the jealousy between a gorgeous vampire, and a soon to be gorgeous (come on, he is only 19!) werewolf, not to mention a vampire family led by the highly talented (and also pretty) Peter Facinelli.

Yes, the effects with the wolves should have been much better. The stories could have more thrills and surprises. But all in all this is a fun, harmless romance movie for people who like the supernatural stuff, with the emphasis on romance. If you want all action and gore, see Blade. If you want more literature where vampires don’t shine, watch Interview with the Vampire. For pop-corn romance and good alternative rock, Twilight is pretty good.

I’ll see this film in November. How about you?

ECLIPSE PLOT SUMMARY AND REVIEW

Bella Swan the human (Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen the vampire (Robert Pattinson) are together and still very much in love. However, they have some problems:

–          After everything Bella has gone through (the dangers in Twilight and the depression in New Moon), her father Charlie (Billy Burke) is not, naturally, fond of Edward. Of course he is still clueless that he is a vampire.

–          Charlie would rather have Bella spend time with his friend’s son-Bella’s best friend -Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner). Well, Charlie is also clueless that Jacob is a shapeshifter that can turn into a wolf. However Bella and Jacob are not exactly in good terms. After all he is in love with her and he despises Edward to the core. And Edward also hates Jacob.

–          The Volturi (led by Dakota Fanning’s Jane) want Bella to turn into a vampire. Bella has been wanting this since the first movie. Edward now has no choice, but he has made one condition. She has to marry him.

–          And Bella is not exactly sure how she will be explain to her parents that she will marry her boyfriend at the age of 18 and she is not even pregnant. And if she does agree to marry Edward, how will Jacob handle it?

Despite the complications, Bella won’t give up on either Jacob or Edward. She makes piece with Jacob again but Jacob still loves pissing Edward off and vice versa. He makes it clear to Bella that he won’t give up the fight for her heart. But as he finds out, she will willingly turn into a vampire and he is disgusted by the idea. Still, he says he will be fighting for her until her heart stops beating (as a human).

While Bella is caught in between the love of her life and her best friend/the second love of her life, there is another and much bigger problem. An army of newborn vampires are terrorizing Seatlle, led by a local Forks boy-turned-vampire led by Riley. As the Cullens explain, newborn vampires are at their strongest, most vicious and most uncontrollable. They are suspecting that their number one vampire enemy Victoria is behind it and they are right. As the Volturi (currently lead by Aro’s sister Jane Volturi) don’t seem to be doing anything so it is up to the Cullens to protect Bella, the town and each other. When Jacob and his friends realize how big the threat is, they decide to join on the fight. After all, as Jacob puts it, they will at least get to kill some vampires.

So it is up to Jasper Cullen (Jackson Rathbone) to train both his family and the werewolves to train  against the newborns. Jasper has a history of fighting wars-both humans and creating/training newborns.

This fight will force Edward and Jacob to try to put their differences behind. But can they manage to deal with Bella’s feelings for each of them and beat a vicious army at the same time?

This movie is fun. It is at the height of mindless entertainment. It is rated a 4.6 on IMDB but if there is something about the movie I will rated below that, it is the wolves. Just like New Moon, they do look ridiculous. Yeah, wolves that big are not meant to be realistic but they should look a bit less funny.

Apart from that, this is an enjoyable experience, especially if you try and not to get tangled up in the hype of hatred. So vampires shine in the sun instead of bursting into flames? Get over that already! There are vampires who fall in love with humans and refuse to suck human blood and try to make amends for their past mistakes and sins. I’d have thought after Buffy, Moonlight and True Blood, people would get used to the idea of nice vampires. And yes, pretty vampires. If you love Dracula’s make-up, fine. Watch that. The ugly vampire faces from Buffy are so 90s and as much as I love True Blood, the teeth look ridiculous. Oh sure, the vampires in Twilight get unflattering make-up too but hey they are vampires. They do have to look at least a little off and unnatural.

Are you bothered with the almost fairy tale like romance? Fine. Don’t see the movie. Or if it makes you happy to hate it and then complain about it, sure-by all means go for it. But don’t go saying the movie has been the worst experience of your life because

a) If this movie has been the worst movie you have ever seen, you take everything far too seriously and  b) you have done it to yourself.

This movie is not a horror film and it is not a thriller. It is a romance movie with vampires that happen to have some nice fighting sequences attached to it. Twilight was never meant to be scary or impressive in the horror/thriller department.

Could it be done better? Probably. But is it just alright the way it is? Yeah. It involves pretty people Not just for girls- guys are bound to find at least one of the female characters pretty. The blonde Rosalie Cullen (Nikki Reed), the adorable Alice (Ashley Greene), the fiery redhead Victoria (Bryce Dallas Howard) and of course the plain yet pretty brunette Kristen Stewart.

Frankly, I found this movie’s most interesting character to be Jasper. He no longer looks like Edward Scissorhands but more like a little made-up but gorgeous glam rocker. He is cool, charismatic, fun and has a better haircut. His past and his training scenes make for a nice sub-plot. And as if the girls were complaining about the lack of the pretty men, we know get another hunk in the form of Riley, played by Australian Xavier Samuel. One of my friends even complained that he should be playing Edward.

The movie also includes decent jokes and fun moments:

–          Bella claims to be Switzerland.

–          Edward complains about Jacob’s shirtlessness.

–          Edward kisses Bella to mark his territory and Jacob hugs her tight and carries her around to mark his.

–          Jacob says that he can feel Bella’s attraction towards him. Yeah, like Bella could hide it… I mean her gorgeous yet old-fashioned boyfriend is withholding sex until marriage whereas Jacob is all muscles and well, more than ready for anything physical with Bella…

–          Charlie’ s awkward but hilarious conversation about protection and his reason to love Edward.

–          And the best line ever:

From Jacob to Edward: I am hotter than you.

I am underlining 4 things: mindless, entertainment, eye candy, romance. Keep your expectations rational and you might have a good time. I went to see the movie with 2 friends, one female and one male. Now, the girl does like the movie. And the guy did have fun. He was busy lusting over Alice (Ashley Greene), joking about how horny vampires were (as in Riley and Victoria), what a faggot Edward was, how slutty Bella was and how she should have picked Jacob. I do agree on most accounts.

Also keep in mind the novels were written by a female by the name of Stephenie Meyer. Yes, it is after all one woman’s romantic fantasy. But then again, so fucking what?

Ratings:

10/10 for eye candy for girls

7/10 for eye candy for boys

2/10 – as for the lack of sexuality

3/10 for wolves effects, 7/10 for the rest

7/10 for all over entertainment

2/10 for the poster

9/10 for the romance.

Enjoy!

Valentine's Day starring Julia Roberts, Bradley Cooper, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway, Ashton Kutcher, Taylor Lautner, Taylor Swift
Valentine's Day starring Julia Roberts, Bradley Cooper, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway, Ashton Kutcher, Taylor Lautner, Taylor Swift, Patrick Dempsey, Eric Dane, Topher Grace, Jamie Foxx and Queen Latifah. There is a chance I missed some of the name. It is not my fault that the cast is so crowded. Image from: http://www.shockya.com/

I was so looking forward to this movie. I mean have you seen the cast? With the exception of Taylor Swift, the names are really impressive: Julia Roberts, Bradley Cooper, Eric Dane, Patrick Dempsey, Jennifer Garner, Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Alba, Jamie Foxx, Jessica Biel, Anne Hathaway, Topher Grace, Taylor Lautner, Shirley Mclaine…

But it is like director Gary Marshall (Pretty Woman, Frankie and Johnny, Runaway Bride) knew he would have an all-star cast so no effort or whatsoever has been put into the script. There are many intersecting stories and ordinary dialogue. Yes, it takes place on A Valentine’s Day but nothing interesting happens- either in the comic or romantic sense.

The stories? Well, it is more like a bunch of characters:

–          Grandparents and their little grandchild in love and missing his mother and teenage granddaughter announcing she will have sex.

–          A married, two-timing doctor (Patrick Dempsey) and his clueless girlfriend (Jennifer Garner)

–          A nice guy working in the mailroom (Topher Grace) and his girlfriend ( Anne Hathaway)- who is secretly working as an adult phone entertainer. Yes, phone sex. And no, he doesn’t know about it.

–          A PR professional who hates this day – Jessica Biel

–          A football player whose future is in jeopardy- Eric Dane- oh, his PR gal is Jessica Biel.

–          Two strangers on a plane- Julia Roberts and Bradley Cooper

–          Two high school kids in love- Taylor Lautner and Taylor Swift- friends with the couple getting ready to have sex

–          A flower shop owner- Ashton Kutcher- who just proposed to his girl friend (Jessica Alba). Unfortunately for him, she is not that eager. And, oh- he also is friends with Jennifer Garner’s character Julia- who is a school teacher, also the teacher of the lovesick grandkid

–          An unhappy sports news guy-Jamie Foxx-given a Valentine’s Day assignment-trying to secure a sports gig, with the help of our PR girl Jessica Biel

2 hours with some fun moments.  Watch it if you have no better alternatives or if you just wanna see a movie where almost everyone is pretty. 5.7/10 on imdb. 5/10 from me. But hey, I will recommend other films and TV shows with the cast members for you- their other projects that are either more fun, that have more soul or both. Click on the red to go to the reviews.

*Jessica Biel: The Illusionist. She is the co-star the Edward Norton in once cool period drama/romance/thriller/mystery

*Ashton Kutcher: Butterfly Effect, What Happens in Vegas, Just Married, My Boss’ Daughter.

*Jennifer Garner: Watch her TV show Alias. Amazing, kick-ass show with the right amount of romance, action, drama and comic-relief. But more action than anything. She is playing the same characters in her movies over and over again. Same goes for Ashton Kutcher obviously. But the movies I recommended above for him are either really gripping or really funny so who cares?

*Patrick Dempsey- Watch the first 2 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy or Made of Honor. Made of Honor is a typical romcom but at least its comedy part is actually funny

*Eric Dane: Marley and Me where he stars alongside Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson.  But if its about giving him screen time, he has been a regular on Grey’s Anatomy since season 3 or so.

* Taylor Lautner: Twilight, New Moon

* Bradley Cooper: He also stars in Alias alongside Jennifer Garner. But he also played in awesome comedies like Wedding Crashers and The Hangover. And if you want Cooper in a romcom that is worth seeing, see He’s Just Not That Into You.

*Julia Roberts: She has done many good movies. Start with Conspiracy Theory, if you want original action/thriller.

* Jessica Alba: The Sleeping Dictionary, Awake. And for mindless entertainment and eye candy for girls, watch Into The Blue where she stars opposite Paul Walker.

*Topher Grace: That 70’s Show, obviously- where you will also see a very funny Ashton Kutcher. And please check out the solid comedy/drama In Good Company where he stars opposite Dennis Quaid and Scarlett Johansson.

* Anne Hataway: Becoming Jane

*Jamie Foxx: Law Abiding Citizen

My Own Worst Enemy, starring Christian Slater

Christian Slater in My Own Worst Enemy

It is no secret that I love my spy gear, secret agents and a good mystery. For instance it might be about a secret agent who has been tricked and hanging in to take revenge while leading a dual life (Alias). By the way, Christian Slater does appear in 2 episodes of Alias.

However, the “mystery” and the conflict in My Own Worst Enemy is even more complicated. No, fellow fans of Alias, I haven’t lost it. I know all about Sydney Bristow and her family background. But despite all the tricks and lies, she wanted to be an agent. She just didn’t know she was recruited by the wrong men.

Henry Spivey (Christian Slater) is a family man. He loves his wife (Mädchen Amick) and his two kids (Taylor Lautner and Bella Thorne). He doesn’t mind working hard to keep the comfortable domestic bliss that they’ve got going.

Edward Albright (also Christian Slater) is a highly-skilled and deadly operative working for a secret government agency. He doesn’t mind having sex with his target and then killing her on the spot. He is good at everything, including sex.

The deal?  There is a chip in our Henry/Edward (yep-same body)’s brain- implemented by the agency and used at their convenience. When an operation needs Edward, Henry is supposedly sent on a business trip and our gentle husband/dad is put the sleep. Edward is awakened and he gets the job done. Then the memories are erased for Henry and he wakes up. Henry isn’t supposed to know about Edward…However this dual life-one guy system hits a bump. Edward starts to wake up in the middle of Henry’s life and Henry starts waking up in the middle of Edward’s operations. The agency threatens Henry that they will kill him if he tries to talk about this to anyone, so he tries to co-exist. Edward doesn’t mind sleeping with the hot wife Angela. He has a hard time with the mundane family life, though. And Henry is more than freaked out having to participate in the spy game. Especially, every time he uncovers a truth, it is more disturbing than the last. He also hates the fact that his wife is unknowingly having sex with Edward and enjoying it a lot!

It might have lasted only a season (9 episodes) but it is definitely not because the show is not interesting. It has a great storyline and a solid leading actor. The rest of the cast are also doing a good job. Edward’s superior is played by Alfre Woodard. That woman really gives me the creeps. It is not really just about her talent but the shady characters she plays as well. You might remember her from Desperate Housewives, where she played the mysterious new neighbor who had one son locked in the basement. Edward’s partner/ Henry’s colleague Raymond/Tom (also dual identity-played by Tom (Mike O’Malley). Saffran Burrows plays the firm therapist.  Mädchen Amick has appeared in many tv shows such as Joey, Freddie and Gossip Girl but she is most memorable in her role in Dream Lover, starring with James Spader. And of course Taylor Lautner who made quite a name for himself, playing Jacob Black in the Twilight Saga movies, Twilight and New Moon. He will continue his role in the two remaining movies of the series. But mind you, he doesn’t have that many lines. It is Christian’s show.

Watch it if you like your spy stuff.  Christian Slater is also a plus.
