June Havens (Cameron Diaz) is a beautiful car mechanic who is about to fly home with her recently acquired car parts from Kansas. She needs to be at home soon for her sister’s wedding and she will be using the parts for her wedding gift, a car their deceased father has left them.
When she meets handsome stranger Roy Miller (Tom Cruise) at the airport and ends up on the same plane with him, she is more than thrilled. The problem is, she was never meant to get on that plane. The plane carries only a bunch of passengers and along with the pilots and stewardesses, they are all intent on killing Miller- who happens to be a very capable and deadly secret agent.
When June goes to the bathroom to well…look prettier and work on tactics on how to get on with Roy, Roy is busy killing everyone attacking him. She comes out to face the biggest adventure of her life when landing the plane in a field, being briefed about what not to do when rogue agents come asking about Roy is only the beginning…
As much as June tries to get along with her life, FBI tracks her down. They do everything Roy told her they would and he comes and “saves” June from them. She doesn’t exactly trust Roy, but he has saved her life several times and well, he also happens to be the most attractive and exciting guy she ever met.
So June is thrown into a journey involving agents (Peter Sarsgaard), Spanish arm dealers (Jordi Molla), genuis teenagers (Paul Dano), exotic islands, around-the-world traveling, a lot of (car) chases and some good old fighting. But the question remains: Is Roy telling the truth and as genuinely interested in her as he seems to be or is he the rogue one? And how far will June go to find out?

Knight and Day is an excellent blend of action, comedy and romance. There rarely comes a movie that combines all these genres perfectly. Knight and Day never ignores a genre that it belongs to. Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise are together on screen once again after Vanilla Sky. While Vanilla Sky was an intriguing film, comedic action has suited this dynamic and extremely attractive duo much better.
As much as I like to make fun of Tom Cruise’s weird fascination with everything Katie Holmes and scientology, I am going to admit that he has never stopped being one of my favorite actors and entertainers of all time. And he is notably gorgeous and young-looking at 48 is beyond me.
I have read many funny and stupid comments about the movie. Some of them includes:
– That Cameron Diaz is too old to wear a bikini and look bad in it.
Are you kidding me? She may not be the youngest-looking 37-year-old actress out there, but she certainly looks amazing all the time.
– That this movie is an insult to animal rights as it involves scenes in Spain with bulls…
This movie is the perfect reminder of why Tom and Cameron have been so popular for so many years. They are pretty, talented, in shape and they provide great chemistry.
Favorite Line/Scene: June is given a form of truth serum. She is supposed to escape from the bad guys with her knight Roy but she is much more intent on flirting and expressing her true feelings for him. Trust her to distract the most professional agent:
June (to Roy): I think we would have great sex!
Roy: Did they give you something?
See it. You will have fun.
9/10 for all over entertainment, well-done script and casting.
