Inspiration to get your ass in gear part 2 feat. Bon Jovi’s It’s My Life, Keep The Faith and Have a Nice Day

Well, my previous post is about how songs can actually get you in the mood not to give in your dreams and it gives Poison’s Cry Tough as an example. The song is fast, hopeful and it  just tells you not to give up. The fact that the band came from nowhere and went to the top of the charts through persistence and hard work  makes the lyrics credible.

You may not know Poison. But I’m pretty sure you have heard of  Bon Jovi. Don’t dismiss them because rock isn’t your thing or because their sound is just too “soft” for you. They have songs in a lot of genres (hard rock, classic rock, pop-rock, country rock, glam rock…), and they have written songs about almost all aspects of life. Don’t think about the ballads. Please, we are not going to talk about “Always” here. But, if you are thinking of  the chorus from their hit song “It’s my life”, great! You are exactly where I need you to be. The whole song is about not giving up and standing your ground. In fact, this song is only one example from the band. They are huge on songs that encourage you to work on your dreams.

Here is a part of  “It’s my life“:

It’s my life  – And it’s now or never
I ain’t gonna live forever , I just want to live while I’m alive
(It’s my life)
My heart is like an open highway – Like Frankie said
I did it my way, I just want to live while I’m alive ,’Cause it’s my life

Better stand tall when they’re calling you out
Don’t bend, don’t break, baby, don’t back down

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOfaYFIHt1g&feature=fvst  this is for the song’s video.

They might have sold over 100,000,000 records (yes, it is the official number) but it’s not like success fell on their laps. Frontman Jon Bon Jovi worked at odd jobs, he even sold shoes. (I am saying “even” – if you remember the old sitcom Married with Children, the shoe selling thing might put a smile on your face.) He cleaned the floors on a record studio and didn’t get paid for it. Instead he just recorded his demos. One of the demos got him a record deal and a band. But what made Bon Jovi huge is actually another song that tells you to keep hanging on no matter what: Living on a Prayer. This is the video of the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUSDS9pkA2Y&feature=fvst

Oh and the chorus goes something like this:

Whooah, were half way there
Livin on a prayer
Take my hand and well make it – I swear
Livin on a prayer

Not to mention, they have written Keep The Faith (it tells you to “keep the faith: you know youre gonna live thru the rain” ) and Have a Nice Day , whose chorus goes:

Ohhh, if there’s one thing I hang onto,
That gets me through the night.
I ain’t gonna do what I don’t want to,
I’m gonna live my life.
Shining like a diamond, rolling with the dice,
Standing on the ledge, I show the wind how to fly.
When the world gets in my face,
I say, Have A Nice Day.
Have A Nice Day

BON JOVI-HAVE A NICE DAY ALBUM TOUR,2006
BON JOVI-HAVE A NICE DAY ALBUM TOUR,2006

This post was originally titled Bon Jovi Once is Not Enough. Today, I published another pot to prove it. Yesterday (July, 08, 2011), Bon Jovi were in Istanbul Turkey and they rocked the hell out of us. Now, I have to say you can never be to enough Bon Jovi concerts. To read 2011’s review, click here.

For the Munich concert review, read on:

I had been waiting to see these guys for 10 years. 10 years. You see, I absolutely HATE waiting I am a Sagittarius and I couldn’t wait to be born. So now that you know I can’t even wait for 5 minutes, you will realize what kind of torture it was to wait such a long time. I grew up listening to these guys. When I found my true self, they were there. I was just 11 when I first bought their album. It was 95, their most recent at the time. I had got sick of listening to same shit and I wanted something new, something exciting. And I found it with These Days.

After I knew These Days inside out, it was time to try other albums. As I did, I loved the band more and more. Every album was different and I liked them all. Along the road, I discovered other bands. Rock was my thing. Fit my character, helped me express myself. There was a good song for my every mood. I listened other bands too of course: Def Leppard, Motley Crue, AC/DC, Poison, Goo Goo Dolls…But Bon Jovi remained the most special. As I said, I grew up with them but didn’t grow out of them. I am full of life and their songs celebrate life in the most fun fashion.
I saw Bryan Adams when I was 15. Small stadium, great concert. Loved it.
For my 20th Birthday, I saw Sebastian Bach- front- man of Skid Row-with friends. It was cool,
great party.
I saw Uriah Heep at a Harley Davidson Festival. It was summer, it was a park. It was fun.
Then I saw Motley Crue this summer. Wow! Crowd capacity: 16.000. The biggest concert up to date. Effects, stunts, performance. Everything was perfect. The great theatrical rock concert

.
But I hadn’t seen Bon Jovi. The thing about this band is that I like them in person too. I like the fact that they didn’t do heavy drugs, they quit completely after they had kids, that they were nice guys who appreciated family, friends, fans, love and dreams. They wrote about stuff I cared about. So I wanted the ultimate concert. And finally, when I was in Norway, I got the chance!!!

28th May, 2006, Sunday, Munich

I am not a fan of the people in Munich and I did have some bad luck with the ticket before and after the concert. And no I wasn’t in the front. But I was in the field of an Olympic Stadium! There were like 70.000 people, all fans, all mad about the band! I was at the heart of an amazing concert! The front band Nickelback warmed us. But the real thing was absolutely glorious. They didn’t do stunts like Motley Crue did. They played. Jon sang and danced and worked the band and the crowd. It was pure, naked rock and the pick of songs couldn’t have been better!

Started with Last Man Standing, from the Have a Nice Day album. They played 25 songs in total, with 2 comebacks. You see, we didn’t want to let them go! And I definitely want to see them again. Here the songs, not in order of playing.

From “Slippery When Wet” : You give love a bad name, Wanted dead or alive, Living on a prayer, I’d die for you, Raise your hands,Wild in the Streets.

From “New Jersey” : Bad Medicine, I will be there for you, Born to be my baby

From the “Young guns 2” soundtrack: Blaze of Glory

From “Keep the Faith” : Keep The Faith, I’ll sleep when I’m dead, Dry Country

From “Crossroad”: Someday I’ll be Saturday Night

From These Days: These Days

From Crush: Captain Crush and Beauty Queen From Mars, It’s my life

From Bounce: Everyday

Single: Radio saved my life tonight.

From Have a Nice day:

Have a nice day
I wanna be loved
Who says you can’t go home?
Bells of Freedom
Last man Standing
Story of my life.

22 years, 25 songs, 2.5 hours. It was fucking amazing. Best concert I have ever been to. They left us wanting for more. And yes, Jon Bon Jovi can evoke every possible positive human emotion in you… respect, admiration, lust, fun… Yep, I had a good time. Love everything about the band.

What can I say? Blame it on the love of rock and roll! ; )
