Actors’ Take on Nudity feat. Ashley Judd, Angelina Jolie, Antonio Banderas, Gerard Butler & More

Ashley Judd
Ashley Judd is a good actress, but she is also sexy. I am guessing any director would want to take advantage of it?

Ashley Judd is quoted to have said that she refused to get naked in her first role, saying her mom didn’t work that hard to see her daughter lose her clothes in her first movie. But then Ashley Judd appeared naked in some roles. So apparently it is alright for her mom if her daughter does it the second/third time around?

Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw, Sex and the City
Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw, Sex and the City

Some actors have no problems baring all whether some have to agree, otherwise they wouldn’t get the part. It depends on the power and the preference. Sarah Jessica Parker is the only Sex and The City star that doesn’t bare her boobs. It is a major accomplishment to keep one’s bra in such a TV show is a remarkable thing, if you ask me. I love the show but hey, I don’t need to see everything the four women’ve got!

Kim Basinger engages in a not-so-romantic relationship with Mickey Rourke.
Kim Basinger engages in a not-so-romantic relationship with Mickey Rourke. Apparently, you can film sex scenes without using your own body...

Some roles do ask for it. You can always get a body stunt. Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke’s hit 9½ Weeks includes a lot of Kim’s flesh- only they are not Kim’s.

Antonio Banderas and Angelina Jolie get sexy
Antonio Banderas and Angelina Jolie pose for a promo photo. Yep, selling sex as much as possible. Hey, it was a good movie and it tells a fun story on lust, love and possession. So sex is a central part of the movie anyway.

Antonio Banderas and Angelina Jolie never minded being naked and you can take a look at them going native together in the movie Original Sin. Fun movie but I am not sure how comfortable I would be with their scenes, had I been dating Antonio (OK, I wouldn’t exactly mind if I were dating Banderas. I’d be too busy gloating, but I’m making a point here).

Gerard Butler in Law Abiding Citizen

Gerard Butler does bare a lot (but not enough, as one of my good friends notably mentioned) in Law Abiding Citizen. He jokes with Jay Leno that he does like getting undressed for a movie. After all, he produces the movie and calls the shots. He didn’t do anything he didn’t want to do. Hey, no complaints here. Besides, if I were a guy and I looked like that ,I so wouldn’t mind taking my clothes off either.

So, either you don’t have the power and have to say yes for the role (or you just have to pass on the role) or you do have the power. When you do have the power, it depends on how you feel about the “sex sells” motto. Now, I am guessing Law Abiding Citizen would not have been less successful without Gerard showing off his muscles, but hey, his “naked” scene does add to his characters psycho “mood.” As long as the scene calls for it, I guess there is no harm done. But hey, nudity for nudity’s sake always feels out of place- whether it is a feast of sight for the boys or the girls or both…

What do you think?

Top 10 Gerard Butler Movies

Gerard Butler
Gerard Butler

This is not about critics, imdb ratings or box office results. It is my favorites from one of my fav. actors. If you want to share your thoughts on Gerard, you are more than welcome to do it here.

1) Law Abiding Citizen (2009)

This movie is a wonderful thriller that makes you question a lot of things, including who the bad guys/good guys in the movie. I side with Gerard Butler’s Clyde on most of his avenging acts, despite a couple of things. This movie isn’t perfect but it is pretty damn good. If you like your story smart, your “hero” on the “darker” side and enjoy a good revenge story, do not miss it. For the ones who have seen it, here is a review:

http://cinemaroll.com/cinemarolling/law-abiding-citizen-two-steps-short-of-perfection/

2) Butterfly on a wheel (2007)

I tend to like a movie more if it has some of the actors I love. This movie has 3: Pierce Brosnan, Gerard Butler and Maria Bello. A perfect marriage, a perfect kidnapping, an unpredictable criminal with strange requests. Or maybe the crime makes perfect sense and our “hero” Neil is not so perfect after all. No spoilers.

3) Please (1999)

Award-winning short film with Butler in the lead. My review on the film includes the youtube link where you can watch the whole movie:

4) The Ugly Truth (2009)

Men are cocky, superficial and all you need to get one is to be thin, own some hot lingerie and give blow-jobs. Women are hopeless dreamers who are equally supeficial. They want romance if it is provided by a handsome guy with a good job. Or maybe things aren’t just simple and the truth isn’t that ugly. This R-rated romantic comedy shows us some reality with hilarious scenes, likable characters and predictable yet enjoyable twists. For the review including screen shots:

5) Dear Frankie (2004)

One modest sweetheart of a movie that wins you over with the acting and storytelling; not with the originality of the script. Frankie is a smart but deaf boy raised by his mother and grandmother. Their whereabouts are hidden from his violent father. His mother Lizzie does everything to protect him from the truth, so she writes to him as his father: a nice man, a sailor who can not be with them because of work. Of course a coincidence forces Lizzie to find a man to pose as the father. What she hasn’t planned on how this stranger (Gerard Butler) will connect both with her and Frankie:

6) P.S I love you (2007)

Holly (Swank) and Gerry (Butler) are a happily married couple and still madly in love. When Gerry suddenly dies, Holly has difficulty in coping. However Gerry has planned ahead: He has written to Holly that are to arrive at specific times after his death. Bittersweet romantic drama/comedy. For the trailer:

7) Attila (2001)

An epic TV film based on the life of Atilla, leader of the Huns. It has all the glory of an epic picture should have: nice battle sequences, love, loss, pain, treachery, lust…:

8 ) Lara Croft: The Cradle of Life (2003)

Sequel to the first Lara Croft. Is it just me or is Angelina Jolie the best actress to play a video game character ever? She has the looks and the stamina. And who better than Butler to provide the sexual tension? Check out the longer review with pictures:

https://pinartarhan.com/blog/lara-croft-tomb-raider-the-cradle-of-life/

9) Timeline (2003)

A group of archeology students are forced to travel in time to save one of their friends’ father. It doesn’t help that they find themselves in France in the middle of the war with England, in 21st century. The fact that one of them is French doesn’t help. Paul Walker and Gerard Butler star. Funny, full of action and very romantic:

10) Nim’s Island (2008)

A widower biologist father (Gerard Butler) and his daughter Nim live on a recluded Pacific island. Nim loves this life and reading adventure books by Alex Rover. What she doesn’t know that the real Alex is an agoraphobic female (Jodie Foster) – unlike the Indiana Jonesque Alex she imagined. All hell breaks loose when Alex needs to get out to save Nim from trouble…For more details and the trailer:

P.S. I love you, starring Gerard Butler and Hillary Swank
P.S. I love you, starring Gerard Butler and Hillary Swank

It occurred to me I never got to write about this sweetheart of a flick. I wrote a lot about Gerard Butler and while I included pictures from the movie before , I never wrote a proper movie review. Shame on me. So here we go:
Gerry (Gerard Butler) is an adorable Irish guy married to the American Holly. Though they have been married for some time now, they are still crazy about each other. Sure, they have problems; but nothing they can’t get over. So Holly’s world comes crashing down when Gerry suddenly dies. It has been love at first sight. And after a great marriage of 9 years, Holly just doesn’t know how to cope. But the sweet man that he is, Gerry has thought ahead. He has written letters and arranged them to arrive to Holly at certain times after his death. He speaks to her through the letters, instructing and guiding her, in an attempt to help her cope with his death and life. The letters will take Holly to both fun and emotional journeys in the past, present and the future…

The movie is based on the book of the same name by Cecelia Ahern. I read the book before I saw the movie and though I appreciated the sensitivity of the book, I enjoyed the movie much, much more. Hillary Swank is lovely as Holly and Gerard Butler makes an excellent Gerry. I am also a fan of movies that cast actors that I got to like from previous projects. Friends’ Phoebe Lisa Kudrow plays one of Holly’s best friends and Buffy’s Spike James Marsters plays Gerry’s best friend. Singer/actor Harry Connick Jr., plays the bartender.

Last but not least, Grey’s Anatomy’s Denny Duquette and Watchmen’s The Comedian Jeffrey Dean Morgan has a small but important role.

The only thing I didn’t like about the movie was Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s part. Developments concerning his character just feels rushed. And after watching a story that makes us love Gerry, it feels like you are betraying him. Other than this, director/co-writer Richard LaGravenese has done a decent job.

You should take this lovely journey with Holly. It is romantic, funny and emotional.

P.S. I love this movie and everything about Gerard Butler.

P.S. I love you starring Gerard Butler and Hillary Swank.
Gerry has been around the block and now he is ready for the right girl. He sings in a rock band, he is Irish and he is a romantic. So it is an unrealistic movie. So what? Enjoy your romance.

Nim’s Island starring Gerard Butler, Jodie Foster & Abigail Breslin

Nim's Island with Gerard Butler, Jodie Foster and Abigail Breslin
Nim's Island with Gerard Butler, Jodie Foster and Abigail Breslin

I’ve always liked Jodie Foster. She is a good actress and I really enjoy her performances. I am not exactly a fan of Silence of the Lambs, but I really like Nell, Maverick, The Brave One and now- Nim’s Island. By now I think it is obvious that I made a habit of watching everything with Gerard Butler in it. This movie offers family-friendly fun and mindless entertainment. You can enjoy the movie no matter how old you are, and you are going to appreciate it even more if you have a wild imagination and are used to writing/creating fantasy worlds/stories on your own.

A reclusive island:

Nice pet, huh? Gerard Butler in Nim's Island
Nice pet, huh? Gerard Butler in Nim's Island

Biologist father (Gerard Butler) and his 11 year-old daughter Nim have travelled the world and decided to settle on a beautiful reclusive island on the Pacific. Her mother has died a long time ago and it has been the two of them ever since. The girl’s best friends are a sea lion and a lizard, in addition to a pelican; appropriately called Galileo. They have the tools and the technology, and whatever they can’t make, they order. Nim has a creative mind and what she lacks in human friends, she makes up with the stories she reads. Her favorite author is Alex Rover: a wonderfully brave adventurer: Think Indiana Jones. Only, Alex is so much easier on the eye – I never found Harrison Ford attractive. But Butler takes on a second role in the movie: as opposed to the cute but a little nerdy dad (he is fascinated with one-cell organisms), Alex has longish, unkempt hair, cowboy hat- and he is sexy.

Nim's Island, Gerard Butler as "Alex"

The Real Alex

Now, the actual Alex- or should I say Alexandra- is played by Jodie Foster. You might consider Alex her alter, brave ego – or just a companion from her imagination. The two talk. While Alex is as masculine, impulsive and fun as one can possibly get, Alexandra is an agoraphobic who hasn’t left the house in weeks. The humor of the movie comes from Alexandra’s actions as well as Nim’s relationship with her extra domestic, smart and fun animals.

The Problem

Nim’s dad needs to go on a two-day cruise and he can’t persuade Nim to come with him. Now, Nim is more than happy to stay on the title and take care of her turtle. And she does seem awfully capable of taking care of herself. So he leaves. But when an unexpected storm damages his boat and means of communication, he gets stranded on the ocean. Nim starts to get worried and scared. So she asks Alex for help- Alex was asking for Nim’s help about information on the tropical volcano the island has, that’s how they know each other- how do you save a girl on an undiscovered island when you can’t leave the house?

So this is where the story gets more action and even more fun. Nim tries to keep pirates & tourists off her island, her father tries to fight the ocean and come back home while Alexandra leaves home in an attempt to find Nim.

The script lives up to its entertaining potential and when you like the cast as I do, all you need is some pop-corn, really. It’s perfect escapism.
