Jonathan Rhys Meyers:
Devilishly gorgeous, incredibly talented, painfully sexy and deliciously Irish…
He has been the face of Hugo Boss, played in a Woody Allen movie (Match Point), starred in The Tudors as Henry the VIII, played a romantic musician in August Rush and performed his own vocals. He has gotten naked in front of a camera. He has played Elvis. He… You get the idea. He is versatile, and well, not shy.
I was watching this movie called Tangled. I had never even heard of it and there he was. I love discovering good yet not so in-your-face popular movies and it is always an amazing bonus when those movies feature a gorgeous film star. The movie is a lovely romantic thriller with some cool twists.
There he was, in his 20s, playing the ultimate fantasy guy: Sexy, passionate, fun, reckless. The girl had it all. Him as a boyfriend and another “great” guy as her best friend. And then things got really complicated. And I was hooked. Both by Jonathan and the movie. It’s a film that shows what you can do with a good script, talented actors and a low budget.
Whatever he was in, I had to see. He did not look like any other actor I had seen. He had a knack for both good guys and bad; so he made a perfect choice where grey areas were concerned. But when he does get to play a romantic role, it is a deadly combination. Have you seen August Rush? It is such a beautiful tale- he also comes in the form of a rock musician who has not gotten over the girl he fell in love with 11 years ago.
I don’t know who the hottest male celebrity is. But I know that Jonathan does have a number one spot in my list.
Forget about dedicating a blog post, I should create a whole blog in his name.
If any guy around you should be jealous of a celebrity, it should be Jonathan.
In August Rush, you just have to believe the amazing power of real love and music. If you can get your head around that, you will just love the quest of a young boy looking for his parents, the guy (Meyers) returning to his dreams and searching for The One- who he lost because of the girl’s manipulative father, and the girl who decides to find his son. He is the kind of actor that makes you root for the impossibly (had it not been played by him) unlikable character. Match Point below. He does some nasty stuff: Lying, cheating, marrying into money, and other bad stuff. Yet he makes you believe that somehow he is the victim.
I do like U2 as a band and everything but if there are two celebrities that I celebrate the existence of, they are Pierce Brosnan (he is still sexy) and Jonathan. Don’t you love the amazing acting skills that come with a feast for the eyes?

The guy is a total hunk, he also has this unique charisma that he can use to adapt to any role he wants. He belongs to both a Hugo Boss commercial just as well as he becomes the king in Tudors.

You should really see Tangled and August Rush. Just for starters, anyway 🙂

can I marry him please
zoey says
Yeah, it is a fantasy I can totally relate to. He’s marvelous:)
Sophie says
oh…….so you do love Jonathan then….it’s so easy:)
He is a wet dream! No other words to describe him. You should write something about Velvet Goldmine, that was his breaking-through movie. I adored that movie, he was unbelievably sexy there. Here is a link to a gorgeous fan video made with the most beautiful scene of the film Octane (a horrible movie but with a few exciting close ups of Jonathans enchanting face).
zoey says
The Velvet Goldmine was really disturbing and I like it more when Jonathan doesn’t become a guy’s wet dream:D But I should feature it. I guess I should make a whole tribute to August Rush first. That’s one uplifting, modern fairty tale of a movie.
Octane is really, really bad. I watched the whole movie in fast forward. And I love Madeliene Stowe too. Oh well. But yeah, he was pretty. He almost always is:) The guy makes me want to move to Ireland. Well, him and Pierce Brosnan:)
Really cool video! That scene is steamy. I don’t like Mischa Barton or her projects but even if this movie is bad, it just might haven been the highlight of her career:D
You can check out this interview: It is funny and he is lovely.
Sophie says
Ok he turns gay in Velvet Goldmine but come on, wasn’t he sexy? And also Ewan McGregor was irresistable in that movie, with long hair and lascivious smile. A wonderful couple. It doesn’t disturb me at all if two beautiful guys have some sex toghether (but I know, is a matter of taste…). All that I have to know is that they are not gay in real life…and they are not (nothing like Lee Pace’s thing here:)
Wasn’t it beautiful that love scene in Latter Days? (Another movie took from your blog that I haven’t seen before). I found it hot as hell! And as you wrote I don’t like sex scenes as I like when two people fall madly in love for each other. So I’m talking about love scenes, no matter who the people are, two men, or women, or a man with a woman.
Misha Barton is only pretty, she isn’t an actress…that’s all.
Oh…I never seen that interview with Jonathan, it’s cool. I think the boy is very shy and to overcome his shyness tends to overdo it sometimes. I mean he acts even in the interviews, always, he’s never totally himself. I loved that even Ellen Degeneres, who’s gay and totally out of the closet, had to say at first that he is cute. Is so undeniable that she said “an elefant in the room, it must be said”. He must be an “intolerant view” in person, if you see him you can’t not turn red in your face for the blast of heat you get. Damn hot Irish devil.
It should be opened a whole chapter on his Tudors…..
zoey says
Oh, come on. I am definitely not the one against two gorgeous guys kissing. But there was something I didn’t like about their characters. Maybe I just didn’t find any of them humane enough…Oh, and Christian Bale’s character? I don’t know…But for the movies I encourage men to get together:

I also have this really cute romcom to recommend- only one guy is cute but hey, the movie rocks. It is seriously funny:

I guess my romantic side sometimes takes over my love for glam;)
Sophie says
Maybe that’s why….I simply adore glam and beautiful boys with makeup:)
I read and answered your articles. I have yet to see Shelter.
P.S. I’m also going to see Jonathan’s Ride With The Devil. Have you seen it?
zoey says
Thanks:)
You so should Shelter. It is really fun and really romantic. A great combination.
I haven’t seen Ride With The Devil Yet. I am watching it A.S.A.P! The cast is awesome. Thanks for reminding me.
p.s. I think I like boys depsite the make-up:) I am a huge glam rock fan: Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Posion, Warrant, Def Leppard, KISS…I love the music, the lyrics, vocals and the entertainment but not the make-up. They just looked much better once they took it off;)
Sophie says
Do you know what? I love beautiful boy faces with make up because you have to be gorgeous to wear it without being ridiculous. Is like seal of approval. I use to say “the guy is so good-looking that he seems a girl”. Maybe that’s why you don’t like Poison or Kiss or something in their glam version…because the guys were ugly:)
zoey says
I do like their glam version. It’s just that non-glam is hotter. Well, except Kiss. They were always ugly. But hey, their make-up is something else all together, wasn’t it?:)
Poison’s frontman Bret Michaels was gorgeous. He still is really good-looking at 47 but he has been through so many health issues that he started to lose the beauty. He has diabetics, went through a brain hemorragge and a stroke. Poor guy. Hey, this gives me another article idea: Pretty boys in make-up: So Pretty yet still not girlie?. What do you think?
My favorite rock pretty boys-with or without make up:
Jon Bon Jovi
Bret Michaels
Rick Savage from Def Leppard.
Who are yours? By the way, what kind of music do you like? I feel you do like rock at least a little, since you enjoyed Velvet Goldmine…
Sophie says
Sorry you’re right, Bret Michaels was beautiful. I confused Poison with ZZ top – could you believe it? I think this answers your question if I do like rock…
I loved Velvet Goldmine because of the spirit of those days, the sense of freedom and sensuality, the myth of “forever young and without laws”. It’s a sensation of nostalgia of years I never lived in. I think sixties and seventies were an explosion of rebellion and hope and illusion that men can do everything if really want to. There was a strong purpose to live. The sexual revolution, the collapse of fathers ideals and the need to build new ones. All this seasoned with David Bowie (my passion) and Velvet Underground and Beatles. Can you imagine? How could it be to live in those years? My heart clenches just thinking.
I feel sorry for all of us. This world we live in is empty. Everything is been done and failed and there are no more ideals to cling to. Young people wander, no stimuli, no enthusiasm, only clichès and stereotipes.
Rock is a very extensive term. I suppose that no one could say that he don’t love rock because it’s the father of modern music. But I don’t like your genre of rock. Of course some classics are timeless and I do recognize the beauty. I love trip hop, Bjork, Massive Attack, Tricky, Goldfrapp… Radiohead and Kate Bush are my passion. I adored Depeche Mode and Brian Ferry when I was younger. I can’t say wich genre I prefer because I listen from classical to electronic music but definitely I can say that I love mostly english music.
About rock pretty boys (hard rock in this case) I can say that the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen is the Skid Row’s singer Sebastian Bach. He was simply incredible, that kind of “so good looking to seem a girl”. Unfortunately he hasn’t aged very well.

What do you think? 🙂
Then there is of course Billy Idol. Same thing about aging..
http://blogs.seattleweekly.com/reverb/Idol.jpg
I like Jon Bon Jovi too even if he’s short…he’s hot…and timeless (I mean, how old is he? 48? unbelievable)
Sophie says
P.S. Pretty boys in make-up? Brilliant topic. You should definitely write something about this!
Sophie says
P.P.S. the links are too long, you should copy and paste to your browser if you want to see them…
zoey says
Thanks for the links. I do like Sebastian Bach but I don’t think he aged that badly. But then again, I have always loved men who didn’t cut their hair just because everybody else did when they were younger. It shows that when everybody did it in the 80s, they didn’t just do it because it was fashion. They did it because it was because it was who they are. And I do have a thing about men with long hair- for me, it is still a fun and good part of rocknroll. But Sebastian does still look good. I love that guy. A couple of years ago, he had a concert here and it was right on my birthday. Can you believe it? Talk about a gift that rocks:D
Billy Idol is so much fun. I love his songs. It is not that I only like glam rock. It might be one of my favorite sub-genres, but I do like rocknroll, soft-rock (R.E.M), pop-rock (Roxette),hard rock, modern rock, punk-rock and hey, some heavy metal if done right. Oh, I am not going to resist grunge if it is done with great riffs. I have nothing against well-done pop (The Corrs, for instance) either. I like some Depeche Mode songs- Dave Gahan has one of the most beautiful voices ever. Radiohead is not my cup of tea because I am too much into fun, energy and parties. It is just too depressing. I am not sure if hardcore fans of the band like my fav. Radiohead song. It is high and dry:) What I can say? I love my acoustic guitar…
I love a lot of men who are born in the 60s. The list does include of course Bret and Jon and many others. I am big on dreams, celebrating life, love, fun and friendsihp. That’s why rock is my thing. I like these bands because their lyrics are about me as well. I would have loved to be born a little earlier. maybe late 70s? So I would have caught all the rock in action.
I have another post in the works: Men worth wearing flats for:) The list includes but not limited to Jon Bon Jovi, Simon Baker, Antonio Banderas….I am open to your suggestions as always. Oh, and I am not taller than Jon. And he still looks amazing!
zoey says
P.S.: On celebrities who just age really well? These three articles feature different celebrities. Let me know if you agree.

Yes, I do defenitely love depressing music:)
It could be a little difficult for me to suggest you something for your “Men worth wearing flats for” list. I have to wear flats with almost everyone:) But maybe I could think about some names…
Colin Farrel (5′ 10″ – 1.78); Gael García Bernal (5′ 7″ – 1.70 – not only flants but down on my knees); OMG of course Jonathan Rhys Meyers (5′ 9″ – 1.75); obviously Johnny Depp (5′ 8″ 1/2 – 1.74); Cillian Murphy (5′ 9″ – 1.75); James Marsden (5′ 10″ – 1.78)…
About Ride with the Devil (with Jonathan Rhys Meyers) I saw few minutes of the film and there is also Simon Baker in it…just a curiosity.
zoey says
Yeah, you have to suffer a lot more than me:) But I guess with these men, you wouldn’t be standing for a long time either, right? I so should add James Marsden and Johnny Depp to my list as well…
Yeah, Simon is there. But it is one of his worst looks, ha ha. Plus, Mark Ruffalo is there too. After Jonathan, he is the best-looking one there. Just checked his height- 1.75. Perfect for me. Did you see Just Like Heaven? I’ve had a huge crush on him since that movie. Impossibly great and romantic character.
zoey says
P.S. Talking about depressive music and Massive Attack, I have an interview on this site. I used to work for a music site and I translated the interview for them and they gave me the original interview text. If you are interested, it is here:
https://pinartarhan.com/blog/massive-massive-attack-interview/
They have been too depressing for me but I do have a small addiction to one of their songs now- a.k.a House’s opening credits. Do you like that show?
Sophie says
Yes I saw Just Like Heaven, it was a good and romantic story. I also like Reese Witherspoon, she’s cute and she looks intelligent and datarminate too. Nothing to say about Mark Buffalo, he’s not my type (a little ordinary), but his character was so sweet in that movie.
I love Massive Attack guys more and more. They are a smart team interested not only in music but in what’s going on. Not only in their country but on earth. I met them when I was in London for a while. My ex boyfriend was working with them in a recording studio. I was privileged to hear a preview of some tracks. About Stefano Cucchi’s death you can’t even imagine…it was the hottest topic on those days, manifestations of revolt against the police everywhere in Italy…and suddenly that phrase appeared on a bright screen and everybody inflamed shouting “Justice for Stefano Cucchi!”. Unbelievable! I loved the interview.
Did you see the Paradise Circus video? I found it brilliant even if it have porn content (you may see it only on Massive Attack site – it’s no longer available on youtube).
Now Paradise Circus is perhaps my biggest obsession. I LOVE that song! Here is a link to a fan video made with images of The Fall (coincidentally with our speeches – strange). It’s a beautiful vid.

I adore House, he is an absolut son of a bitch. He’s a bit old for me and not attractive but I could madly fall in love with someone like him and loose my soul forever… That character is simply the most charming sting in the ass that someone might realize to have while scratching. Brilliant.
zoey says
Well, Mark Ruffalo is obviously not the kind of guy you would lust over if you saw him crossing the street but romantic+fun guys with cute faces are such a turn-on for me and I can say I’d love to date a guy who looked like that and acted like that. Hell, I would go for the guy if he was half as nice as his character. Another illusion movie world gave us. But I am grateful for the story. A friend of mine had the book it was based on. I tried reading it after the movie but I just couldn’t. I loved the movie version so much. If you ever want a tribute to the movie: http://cinemaroll.com/cinemarolling/just-like-heaven/
The Massive Attack song is really mesmerizing. It fits in perfectly with the context of the film’s story and visuals. I was really impressed with the interview as well. It is great when bands really make a difference as opposed to just showing off. I hate u2 for that. They have some good tracks but I really don’t find Bono sincere at all. By the way, I really loved what Massive Attack says about how invasive some soundtracks were and really killed the movie’s mood instead of creating it.
When I first saw House in House, I thought -seriously? This guy is playing the lead? Predictably, Chase (Jesse Spencer) was much more my type. Maybe he was short (as tall as me) but he was really cute and had an adorable Australian accent (and I do love cute Australians. Which reminds me to include Jesse to my second Australians article.)
But after watching the show for like 10-15 minutes, I couldn’t have cared less about the pretty boy.I was hooked on House-both the guy and the show. I loved his genius, attitude, sense of humor and his freedom to be blunt. I loved how he got his inspirations from the weirdest places, how he couldn’t tolerate stupidty and how he caught even the slightest details. I was in love. And even with the cane and the limp, he towered over everyone in the cast. I saw almost every episode through the six seasons and can’t wait for season 7. I did a little tribute to the show- as an into for the beginners and trivia for the addicts.

(I included some quotes and I always plan to write more on House but I have so much to write and too little time. But there will be a post dedicated to the quotes)
At first look, he wasn’t my type either. But having watched it and known the guy, I think I would be head over heels too;)
Erika Caton says
I have to agree with you, he is amazing on screen, you can’t take your eyes off him, he is simply mesmerizing, magnetic and marvelous!
zoey says
@Erika: Yep, magnetic is the word. He really has to be an alien:)
You know I am just overall very happy with Ireland’s contributions to Hollywood in general:)
