allure of the older guy: part 4

Dermot Mulroney (46)

I remember watching My Best Friend’s Wedding at the theaters in 1997. I can honestly say that I went to see the movie for Julia Roberts, her being my favorite actress at the time and all. And it was Julia Roberts who made the movie entertaining. I mean yeah, Dermot Mulroney and Cameron Diaz were lovely but it was a Robert’s movie. And I had thought Dermot was just an OK looking guy. Remember him from 12 years ago?

A couple of years ago though he starred as a male escort in the romantic comedy called the Wedding Date. He was 42 and he was just..sexy as hell.

Yep, I pretty much prefer the Dermot in his 40s to the Dermot in his 30s. He has grown up quite nicely. What do you think?

allure of the older guy: part 3

As some guys get older, their looks start to deteriorate at an alarming rate. Mel Gibson, anyone? Yet some guys just look hotter when they age. And some don’t even look that good in the beginning. But flash forward some years and you realize they have turned into very sexy men. In this post I have the next example for such guys: Patrick Dempsey.

Patrick Dempsey (43)

I guess the picture just speaks for itself. Recently I came across two movies that had Patrick in small roles: Outbreak (1995) and Scream 3 (2000). Outbreak is a solid thriller about a dangerous and contagious virus and I had seen it many times. Yet I hadn’t noticed Patrick was even there. Oh sure, his role was tiny but still, I had thought that the guy who played the part was just an ordinary looking someone. And when I saw him in Scream 3 the first time, I hadn’t noticed him yet again. But then I came across a showing on TV and I spotted him as Dempsey. Because now several years had passed since the first episode of Grey’s Anatomy was launched and I had a pretty good idea of who he was and what he looked like. Not that he looked the same. Of course once you can recognize him and everything but the difference in his looks are extremely remarkable.

And then there came Grey’s Anatomy. The show started in 2005, when Patrick was about to turn 40. The leading female Meredith Grey meets him in a bar and hooks up with him in the first episode. The next morning, she awkwardly and hurriedly lets him out of the house. She finds him hot but she is not exactly a relationship person, and she especially doesn’t start dating a guy after a one night stand. So she goes to work to the hospital, where it will be her first day as an intern doctor. But then she runs across the guy- it is Derek Shepherd and he happens to be her boss. Actually, rank-wise speaking he is her bosses’ boss. Meredith and her intern friends refer to him as McDreamy behind his back, and rightfully so. Oh, and his appearance pulls me into the show. The guy I failed to notice had matured into a sexy, attractive actor in his 40s. Here are some pictures that show why he deserves the nickname.

Everybody is (getting) married. Remind me why again.

I am not against mariage, let’s start with that. It is a lovely concept;  if you have found someone you are sure you would like to spend your lifetime with- someone who you are madly in love with and the person feels the same about you. Someone you can joke around with, be yourself with and someone you love because they are who they are; not despite  who they are.

But I find it really hard to believe that everyone has found that person in their early/mid 20s. And that the majority of the married couples in late 20s/early 30s are considering making babies. Whoa! Will everyone slow down for a minute? When did all this happen? I am in my mid 2os and definitely not opposed to romance and passion and some casual flirtation thrown in for good measure but marriage??? Children??? In-laws??? Calling your partner’s parents “Mom” and “Dad”??  I am in the process of finding out a  plan to make my dreams come true, to gain true financial independence  and to just go crazy and all that. I am not saying I don’t want to find someone. But right now, I don’t want to go into that forever business. Even if  this amazing person comes along and happens to be as nuts as I am and have similar dreams and such, we wouldn’t get married. Not now!!! I mean come on!!!! And it is alright if he doesn’t appear in these chapters in my life. Oh of course I complain about being single. But what I actually mean is that I don’t have enough fun with the opposite sex at the moment. I don’t have numbers to call when I want to party all night and dance until dawn. I don’t get to meet hot strangers and flirt with them. That’s what I complain about. I think that even having a serious commitment is huge, that moving in is totally unnecessary and very scary. So how come are people so eager to jump into marriage?

It starts about during the last year  of university. Friends/friends of friends start to get married. But the number isn’t that large. Then you graduate and invitations start piling up. People barely out of college talk weddings and budgets and that. You take a job and your boss who is not even 10 years older than you, is married and is considering having a baby. Oh and by my boss, I mean a guy who co-runs a music site and deals with studios and bars and all that. I meet long- haired, metal-loving guys who look like they came straight out of a 90s Metallica concert and see rings on their fingers.

When did everyone get married? Ok, so maybe- it is not that big of a stretch for 35 year-olds being married but people my age? What’s up with that? The wedding dresses, furniture hunting?

I don’t mean to be cynical. I am sure there are a lot of actual feelings and “eternal bliss” involved. But I also believe that the overworking biological clocks and the seeming convenience of it have increased the numbers. It is just that not everyone has to be married and/or have a baby. It sucks if people are doing it because they think it is time or because they get to have regular sex. It sucks if they are doing it because they parents would rather have them tie the knot than have them live together..I really hope the marriages do work out.

I am a romantic of the worst kind. But I also am addicted to excitement and adventure and discovery. I am thinking there will be people in my life who get me. Until that happens, I will enjoy the ride. It might get lonely but I have never been the one to follow majority and I am not about to start now.

Gerard Butler, Richard Gere and Jeffrey Dean Morgan: Allure of the Older Guy

“Kissing is a man’s business” – Gerry   (P.S. I love you, character portrayed by Gerard Butler)

ps-i-love-you
P.S. I love you, Gerard Butler and Hillary Swank. A wonderfully funny and sad love story.

Oh my God, how true. Having kissed men and boys, trust me; I know the difference. Boys think they know they

are getting it right and have no concern whether they are pleasing you or not.

Men on the other hand, know that the more you are satisfied, the harder you will work at satisfying them-

it is a win-win situation. It goes for kissing and everything else.

P.S. I should know. I did date a guy 12 years older than me. Was so much fun…

ps_i_love_you_wideweb__470x310,0

When I heard Gerard Butler‘s character utter the sentence quoted, I was thinking “Hell, you are so right!!!”.

*** Gerard Butler: Oh, Gerard was born in 1969- which makes him a good 15 years older than me.

GerardButler59
Gerard, 300 times.

And add the sweetness and romantic qualities of his character, I would embrace that difference. And in the movie, Hillary Swank‘ s Holly meets Gerry when she is college and he is a musician. I guess we are supposed to assume a 10 year difference or something like that.  Whatever. Bring it on!

P-S--I-love-you-Photoshoot-ps-i-love-you-664426_305_400
P.S. I love you photoshoot. Damn, I want Swank's career.

***Richard Gere

Oh well. The name speaks for itself, doesn’t it? Pretty Woman might be fun but the story of a businessman + a hooker = fairy tale??  C’mon.  Seriously.  And I don’t really like his earlier stuff- I find them boring and him looking too neat. But when his hair is scruffy, he is wearing his jeans and just a shirt, he is passionate and a little rebellious, all I can say is Hallelujah!!!

Ain't maturity grand?
Ain't maturity grand?

Let’s see more with 3 examples.

*Mr. Jones: The lovely manic-depressive patient. 1993. Richard is 44 years old. Barely looking to be in his mid 30s. Longish hair. Impulsive attitude. No wonder his doctor falls in love with him.

MrJoness
Richard Gere and Lena Olin in Mr. Jones.

*Sommersby: Jack Sommersby comes home 6 years after the war. Right after Jodie Foster shaves the beard, we have an amazing-looking man, who is fun, loyal and loving. Oh boy. Who cares if the guy is 20 years older??? 30??  I want him. (Gere, that is) right here, right now basically.

* Nights in Rodanthe: 2008. Richard is 59. His character has fathered a son played by James Franco. Who do you want? Richard’s character Paul!! He has made mistakes and he is trying to amend them. He meets Diane Lane’s Adrienne. 4 intense days. Totally honest and open. Total attraction and emotional involvement.  I fell in love with Jack.

Nights In Rodanthe
Nights In Rodanthe starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane. James Franco has a small but important role as Richard's son.

*** Jeffrey Dean Morgan. 43. Ever since I saw him in Grey’s Anatomy, I want this guy.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan-ALO-020660

Whatever that comes my way really. One night stand, a serious make-out session, marriage, bed buddies…Oh,yes! I was seduced badly. He barely looks 35 and I like a guy who is older and looks younger than he really is. I guess we have already established that. In Grey’s, he was playing a patient who needed a heart transplant. He charmed Doctor Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) with his good nature, funny self and good looks.

Grey's Anatomy
Grey's Anatomy

She cared for him so much she risked her career to save him. My relationship with the show is limited with Jeffrey’s appearances as Denny Duquette.

Then came P.S. I love you. Oh when Gerry sends his wife to Ireland with his letters, he is a musician she runs across at a bar. All those good looks and the sexiness of vocals and guitar. Oh,wow!!!

psiloveyoupic18
Jeffrey Dean, playing the guitar. He had to learn in a week.

Below;  The Accidental Husband : Silly movie but Jeffrey was there and it was enjoyable. Oh, he played a fire-fighter.

aacidental_husband09
Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Uma Thurman in The Accidental Husband. The adversary is Colin Firth. The movie isn't great but I sure love the cast.

If you are thinking he only plays the good guy, please see the Watchmen. He is supposedly a superhero but he is more like a psycho in there. He is as good as a villain.
