I should be ashamed. I am a Hoffman and a Kidman fan, but I hadn’t even heard of this one. My bad. But then again, I have so many actors to follow. I missed the first 20 minutes or so, but it is a movie where the plot is pretty straight-forward so catching up was easy.

Dutch Schultz’ (Hoffman) is a gang leader. He is smart, quick and pretty ruthless. He is having his fun with the pretty, young and free-spirited Drew (Kidman). He also has a young rookie under his wing: Billy (Dean). Billy wants the glamor and the power. But there are two things wrong with him. 1) He is too nice to be a successful crook. 2) His admiration for Dutch gets overshadowed by his admiration for Drew.

As if these aren’t enough, anyone working for Dutch could be in danger because of a more powerful guy as well. ..

The movie is fun. It is not complicated or really orginal. I am not going to suggest you go running to the closest DVD store but you shouldn’t flip the channel if you run across this one either. I never saw a movie where Hoffman was any less than good. Kidman is so young here. I especially loved Loren Dean- casting him was the perfect choice because he portrays innocence, indecision and conflicts so well. The movie has another couple of niice surprises: It has Stanley Tucci and Steve Buscemi. Even Bruce Willis makes an appearance.

Entertaining experience with actors you like.

Nicole Kidman (1967)

She is gorgeous, elegant and stylish. She always looked good but she just gets prettier everyday. I don’t know if she had any work done. She looks amazing and whatever she did or didn’t do, is working. She is a great actress and if I could ever get in the film business, I’d love to work with her.

Edward Norton (1969)

: Yeah, I love writing about Edward Norton. You go and make great movies and be that cute. I will write about you too. Promise.

This guy is cool, cute and talented. He writes and directs. He picks great scripts to star in. He dated Salma Hayek. He is a Yale graduate. He speaks Japanese and French and Spanish. So what can we do except admiring him? And how is this guy over 40 again? He could easisly pass for a classmate of mine (and I am 25!). Wow. Just, really wow!

Jeffrey Dean Morgan (1966)

: Jeffrey Dean Morgan. If anyone is wondering where my fascination for “older” men is coming from, here is the answer.

I consider watching Grey’s Anatomy a guilty pleasure. And let’s face it, it is a modern soap opera. But when Jeffrey came on the show for some episodes, I wasn’t keeping Grey’s Anatomy to myself. I was telling everyone (OK, to mostly girls) to watch it. Becasue Jeffrey Morgan was there and he made the whole show much, much better. He brought more depth to a show where the characters were acting like a bunch of teenagers in hormonal overdrive.

I stopped watching it after Jeffrey was gone and took it up again when he came back. Even though I am a big fan of Gerard Butler now, Jeffrey was the reason I went to see P.S. I love you. This guy plays the ultimate sweetheart (Denny Duquette in Grey’s, the hunk of a fireman in The Accidental Husband) and a psychotic “superhero” (Watchmen) equally convincingly. I don’t think he is nearly as famous as he should be, but he is not that underrated either. Love him. He is so gorgeous, he doesn’t even look bad with a moustache. A good actor too. Guys, being jealous of Brad Pitt is so last decade…Did I mention Jeffrey is tall too?;)

Clive Owen (1964)

: Clive Owen is…I am running out of adjectives to describe the people in this post . Let’s just leave it at “he is hot”.

Now, my man Clive here doesn’t look that youthful. But he is so handsome in such a manly way. And he can be cute if he wants. So, I’d say he, Butler and Jackman are totally in a league of their own. Jeffrey is just as hot but he is just not that popular yet.

Clive Owen is so charismatic, he makes Shoot ‘Em Up look believable. He is so persuasive in his performances that I totally hated him in Closer. He looks awesome. And he has such intensity, you could never blame Angelina Jolie’s character in Beyond Borders to fall for Owen’s character the way that she did. Clive was kinda lanky and ordinary-looking when he was much younger. Time and work-outs just really work very well for some men. Please Clive, do not give up on being a action hero any time soon. Yes, you are a great romantic/dramatic lead but you just look f***ing fantastic when you are shooting things up!!!

Actors and Literature: Ethan Hawke, Hugh Laurie and Viggo Mortensen

Don’t you like actors when they are multi-dimensional? It must be much more fun to be able to write a novel when they don’t have to pay the bills with its sales. Sure, they would love to have many readers. What author doesn’t? But art is much more fun when you don’t have to worry about selling it. I did talk about actors making music before:

Ethan Hawke

Well, we know Ethan Hawke is no stranger to writing scripts and we do love what he did with Julie Delpy and Richard Linklater, co-writing Before Sunset (The sequel to the amazing romantic film Before Sunrise). But he also writes novels. His first novel is The Hottest State. He later directed this into a movie of the same name in 2006. He also wrote the script and has a small but an important role in the film. Not an amazing film, but pretty good in all standards and I do love a multi-tasking actor.

His second novel was released in 2002 and it is called “Ash Wednesday: A novel”

Hugh Laurie

In addition to being a terrific actor, both comedic and dramatic, he is an apt musician. But as if talent and the British charm isn’t enough, Hugh Laurie is a writer too. His first novel The Gun Seller was a critically acclaimed crime novel. Another one called The Paper Soldier is on the way. Don’t you just love Hugh?

I first saw Viggo in a hugely underrated TV movie called Vanishing Point. It is fast, fun and interesting. Then I watched A Perfect Murder with Michael Douglas and Gwyneth Paltrow, where he played Gwyneth’s lover. The movie was a good remake and he does make a good bohemian artist with some shady intentions. So by the time he was Aragorn in Lord of the Rings, I was already a fan. But when I dug deeper into his history, I realized the guy was even more interesting than I gave him credit for. I’ll get into the details later but let’s just say that he writes poetry and does own a publishing house. Damn, the guy is hardworking.

I love all three actors and I have to admit I haven’t gotten to read their works. Yet. But I’ll. I just hope I have half the luck and talent these guys have…

3 Blog Comment Mistakes That Should Never Be Made

There comes a topic where everyone in the field agrees on. Well, every expert blogger (meaning bloggers who teach how to blog and how to monetize it) agrees on the first 2. The third happened to me, but I am sure they would agree with me on this one.

1) DON’T JUST WRITE “GOOD POST/NICE ARTICLE”

Don’t write something so generic and robotic. Should be obvious but most people insist on doing it. You are a blogger, which means you should be able to tell why you felt a certain way about a certain thing. So express youself. Explain why you think like that. Be specific. Be personal. If you don’t have anything else to say, don’t say anything at all.

2) DON’T JUST LEAVE A LINK AS A COMMENT!

It might be a link to your page or someone elses. But whatever there is in it for you, don’t leave a link as a comment. It is annoying. You can link after making a good point, but make sure your link is related.

3) DON’T HIT ON THE BLOGGER!

This is just too hilarious to be annoying. Or to be taken seriously. I know you are thinking “who does that?” but someone already did that and that’s why it is here.
Unless you are on a dating site, a blog is not for flirting. This is so absurd, it feels like a scene from…well any absurd comedy, actually.
