10 FUNNIEST MOVIES EVER: Laugh Till Your Ribs Hurt

Posted by zoey on April 2, 2010 in Movies and Actors |

Like everything in life, sense of humor is objective. But I watched all these movies more than once, some maybe more than 5 (This generally applies for Jim Carrey movies). I hope you laugh out loud till you get stomach pains and tears in your eyes from laughing like I did.

The Mask (1994)

The Mask with Jim Carrey

Shy and loving Stanley turns into the hilarious party-animal The Mask. If only Stan didn't have to deal with the consequences the day after. Image from: http://www.impawards.com/1994/posters/mask.jpg

Oh yes. A must for any Jim Carrey and comedy fan.

Plot: Ordinary man, bank worker, shy and very romantic Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey)’s life gets turned upside down when a finds a mysterious mask one night. When he puts it on, he turns into a fun loving party animal who can and will get away with anything. The problem is, when he takes the mask off, he is still the same shy decent guy who gets baffled by what The Mask has been up the other day. After all, he may have danced havoc with a gorgeous babe (Cameron Diaz) who happens to be dating a dangerous criminal. The Mask may also have robbed the bank that criminal’s men were trying to rob. Then there are the cops, a curious reporter and all hell breaking loose.

Very funny. 6.6 on IMDB and it is very underrated.

The Hangover (2009)

The Hangover starring Bradley Cooper

This might be the most outrageous and hilarious movie on the list. Let's see if the sequel is just as grand. Starring Bradley Cooper. Photo from: http://fireflyfilm.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/20090611-the-hangover.jpg

This is hands down one of the funniest movies ever made. Who cares if the Vegas bacherlor party theme has been done before? It hasn’t been made like this. Trust me. Definitely deserves the Golden Globe it received for Best Comedy. Starring Bradley Cooper.

7.9 on IMDB. Even that might be underrated. Remember people, we are not out to watch a meaningful movie. We are out to laugh our butts off.

Liar Liar (1997)

Liar Liar starring Jim Carrey

What happens when a lawyer can't lie for a whole day? Watch out for the court bathroom and traffic tickets scenes in particular. Photo from: http://www.impawards.com/1997/posters/liar_liar_ver1.jpg

Avid Jim Carrey fan here folks and I am not ashamed to admit it. What’s not to like about a lawyer who can not lie for a whole day, and that day being the most crucial one of his career?

Fletcher Reede is a successful lawyer. He has questionable ethics and has neglected his son Max. In fact his passion for his career and how he put it above anything else is why his marriage to Audrey (Maura Tierney) ended in the first place. But both his ex and son are tired of the promises he didn’t keep. So on his birthday, Max makes a wish. He wishes that his father can’t lie for a day. Inexplicably his wish comes true and turns the next 24 hours of his dad’s life into chaos. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Favorite scene: Jim Carrey beats the crap out of himself in the bathroom as a last resort. Did Edward Norton impress you beating himself in Fight Club? He was good. But watch out how Jim does it as well. This guy is a comedy genius.

Wedding Crashers (2005)

Wedding Crashers starring Vince Vaugn and Owen Wilson

What a cast! Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Isla Fisher, Bradley Cooper and Christopher Walken. Photo from: http://anpost.screenclick.com/Images/DVDs/Lg/WeddingCrashers.jpg

Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson star as two old buddies who crash every wedding they can to bang as many bridesmaids as they can. That’s right. But obviously some bridesmaids happen to be more challenging.

7.2 on IMDB

Bruce Almighty (2003)

Jim Carrey in Bruce Almighty

Jim Carrey's Bruce gets to play God. Co-starring Jennifer Aniston, Morgan Freeman and Steve Carrell. Photo from: http://www.movieposter.com/posters/archive/main/14/MPW-7321

Jim Carrey and Liar Liar director Tom Shadyac collaborate once again.

A television reporter is sick of his mediocre life. He loves blaming God for everything that is wrong with his life. His live-in girlfriend Grace (Jennifer Aniston) is upset by the fact that Bruce never seems content. But one day Bruce gets to meet God (Morgan Freeman). As it turns out, God is sick of Bruce’s moaning and bitching all the time so he lends all his powers to Bruce. Well, obviously at first Bruce is freaked out and then he starts having the time of his life. That of course lasts until he starts hearing the prayers of all human beings and his self-serving actions come back to bite him in the a..

Classic Carrey. Funny as hell.

Old School (2003):  7.0

Old School starring Vince Vaughn, Luke Wilson and Will Ferrell

Unrated. Outrageous. Hilarious. Just don't watch it with your parents. Starring Vince Vaughn, Luke Wilson and Will Ferrell. Photo from: http://www.osgoodhotel.com/archives/old_school_verdvd.jpg

A movie from the writer/director of The Hangover. R-rated, dirty and really, really funny.

A bunch of over 30 guys, not content with their miserable love lives and/or family obligations start their own fraternity. Yeah, those good old college days, right? Some real college kids, some guys about 30 and with some guy even approaching 80, this is priceless. So it is R-Rated. So what? When funny is funny, you got to give its due.

What Women Want (2000) 6.3

What Women Want starring Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt

A romantic comedy that isn't a chick flick. In fact, it starts off as a guy flick. You'll love it. Photo: http://executivesummary.files.wordpress.com/2007/02/what-women-want.jpg

Nick Marshall (Mel Gibson) is leading a life pretty much every guy would envy. He has got a great job as an advertising executive, has a great apartment, a friendly boss and of course, he seems to be pretty good with the ladies. But one day, his boss decides to hire a female creative director, Darcy (Helen Hunt), a job Nick was after. His boss is certain that Nick doesn’t understand women and he is right. However one day, he also has a weird “accident”. He wakes up and realizes he can hear what women want. Spooked at first, he acknowledges that this might be the best thing ever. He can sabotage Darcy’s work and he can get even more women. But it is not all peachy as Nick realizes that his daughter hates him, most women can’t stand him and well, Darcy might just become more than a worthy nemesis.

Hilarious all around. A lot of comedies come with romantic notions and yes, What Women Want is a little more romantic towards the end, but the comedy more than makes up for it.It is also adorable as a romcom, so either way the movie works. One of Mel Gibson’s best. Plus it is the only movie where you will catch Mel Gibson wearing a pantyhose, bra, make-up and try to wax, singing along to Meredith Brook’ Bitch.

Oscar (1991):  5.6

Oscar starring Sylvester Stallone and Marisa Tomei

Oscar starring Sylvester Stallone and Marisa Tomei. My favorite gangster movie. Image from: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/517MZTB0RDL._SL500_.jpg

Slyvester Stallone can do comedy. Oscar is the very proof of this and has remained as one of my favorite comedies over the years. I just can’t resist a mafia leader trying to go all law-abiding, trying to keep his men obey the law just because his father made him a promise.

Angelo’s father (Kirk Douglas) is ashamed of his son being a criminal. So on his death bed, he makes him promise that he will go decent. But the cops wait for him to screw up, his daughter might be fooling around with his accountant, his old flame might show up and….

The funniest set of complications and great parody of the mafia lifestyle. Genuinely funny.

Marisa Tomei is the spoilt daughter.

Yes Man (2008) 7.0

Yes Man starring Jim Carrey

Saying yes all the time might get you more in trouble than saying no. But hey, it is a lot more fun this way. Image from: http://blogs.nashvillescene.com/pitw/YesManPoster.jpg

Based on the book Danny Wallace and inspired by the stuff that actually happened to him. A pessimistic and depressed loan officer attends a conference by chance. He somehow pledges that he will say yes to life and everything that brings. But then saying yes might also include saying yes to your weird old neighbor trying to get you into bed, saying yes to everyone asking for credit, learning Korean, throwing a bridal shower and many more. Bradley Cooper stars as Carl’s best interest. Carl’s love interest is played by Zooey Deschanel. Funny, romantic, original and true.

Fun with Dick and Jane (2005) 6.0

Jim Carrey and Téa Leoni in Fun with Dick and Jane

Not only it is funny, but it also reflects what's wrong with the economy. Image: http://www.movietrimmer.com/content/default/english/images/movies/46208_3.jpg

Remake of the 1977’s movie. However this is updated and includes great jokes about American economy, lifestyle expectations and employment. A clever and extremely funny satire that also intends to make you think.

Dick’s life gets turned upside down when he gets fired and his wife has quit. He has lost everything and he might even lose the house. When supporting his family in the usual standards becomes impossible, Dick will try anything, including construction work, working in a mall and eventually turning to crime with his wife (Leoni).

This is the most racist page on internet. Not one movies with interacial human beings. White people LOUD and clear, it is shown obviously when a website is up like this.

  • zoey says:

Well, before claiming my website is racist, you should go out and check other posts about the movies that star Denzel Washington and Angela Bassett. You do realize Keanu Reeves is half Chinese Hawaian? You should also check out Cairo Time where the leading actor is from Sudan. How about the tv show The Mentalist where one of the major characters is Asian and the boss is black? Or V where the actor with the most important role is black? Did you check out the romantic story Something New starring Simon Baker? He is the only white guy in the cast for goodness sake? How about Queen of the Damned where the queen is not white?….
I can go on forever. You have to keep in mind that this is a one-person blog. There is no way I can include all movies and then sit down and calculate if the racial percentage of the actors are equal. If you have favorite comedies where the majority of the cast is black (or from whatever race), send it. And before making generalisations,
you should really check out the web and see what racist is. This is operated by one person. There are only so many movies I can write about given in a specific period of time.

I agree completely with the movies you’ve listed (The ones i watched)
The Hangover was a blast. I’ve been dying to watch a similar movie that’s like Wedding Crashers because it really made me laugh out loud. Yes Man was hilarious, Jim Carrey is awesome in all of his movies. The Mask was hilarious like wow :P Although the plots and all may not be original and amazing but these are really amazing movies for the laughter and joy they bring to the viewer. I love comedies and i’ve been looking for many other ones i haven’t watched so, again, thank you for this list :)
